Rehabilitate the gravel road between Leopards Hill Road and Muyombe Mwandi Street.
The Issue
The unpaved dirt road that leads up to the University of Lusaka, Leopards Hill Campus (between Leopards Hill Road leading up to Amlac Boarding House) is incredibly inconvenient for the students in the area. Firstly, the dust and wind is a health hazard to students who suffer from severe chronic respiratory diseases, such as Asthma, Bronchitis and Allergic Rhinitis.
Additionally, during rainy season, the road turns to mud, making it slippery and impassable; in dry weather, it is dusty and uneven. These conditions drastically soil clothes and increase the risk of falls and injuries. Moreover, most students cannot afford to utilise taxis or other forms of private transportation to evade the aforementioned challenges.
Furthermore, the inconsistency of the road's condition severely affects punctuality as students find their commute unpredictable. Often times, vehicles are unable to pass through swiftly due to the rough and uneven road, further delaying students who rely on public transportation or private vehicles.
A tarred road will protect the students’ dignity, improve public health, safety, and mobility.
In view of the foregoing, we earnestly and respectfully call on the University of Lusaka to prioritise this upgrade and provide a clear timeline for implementation.
