UPDATE TO THE UPDATE (11/06) : WE WON! On November 6th, 2019, Fulton County Commissioners voted unanimously to fund a NEW comprehensive Animal Shelter for the Fulton County. 

No more need for calls or letters! Thank you for all of your effort and support that got us to this victory! 

Drumroll, please. 

Next Wednesday (November 6th) the county commissioners will vote on funding for a NEW Fulton County Animal Shelter, and we need your help. 

The majority of the commissioners are on board. They've made great progress with the feasibility study. Most acknowledge the urgency of the situation. The total is larger than expected, and there is a chance they will opt to go with a structure that has less kennel space with the idea to add on later. We know this will just add to costs later and keep us in a reactive situation. We want to be PROACTIVE and build a shelter now that will last for the future.

The commissioners need to know that we stand behind them. We want them to vote YES for a comprehensive, facility per the recommendations of the feasibility study. It's imperative that we build a shelter that will meet the needs of the county for years to come.

Dear Commissioner,

My name is ______________ and I (work at or how you are tied to the community). I want to THANK YOU for funding the Fulton County Animal Shelter feasibility study. As a constituent, I want this project done right the first time.

Shelter overcrowding is a problem we have been dealing with for decades. It’s time for it to end. Fulton County needs a new shelter, and it MUST have sufficient kennel space. That means supporting the FULL, COMPREHENSIVE shelter proposal. 

Here’s why:

Overcrowded kennels push dogs to their limits and create danger for staff in the workplace.
Kennel stress affects post-adoption behavior, leads to public safety risk, and increases the number of returns to the shelter and streets.
A reduction in kennel space would create inefficiencies and drive up the cost of operations.
Adding kennel space post initial construction would cost more in the long run.
Cutting any space from the recommended version of the feasibility study would keep the shelter stuck in survival mode instead of being a county service that thrives.

Please fund the FULL, COMPREHENSIVE shelter as supported by the feasibility study, without making any kennel space or service space sacrifices. Your community is counting on you!
