Historically, & up to our current date, political candidates have never had to prove their mental health status to run for Office. Even for the highest Office in our Nation! Congress continually “dances around” the subject of Mental Health in politics, even going so far as to “placate” voters with the ‘appearance of taking action,’ while continually obfuscating mental health exams with medical evaluations: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/4742?s=1&r=51 These are two separate, and completely distinct health fields & issues. Medical exams hold no where near the competency needed, to determine the forensic status of an individual’s mental health, and would literally “fall apart” under Court investigation. 

Make no mistake, this is not about partisan politics. This is about redressing an open legal loophole within our National Security, which has remained unaddressed by Congress for over 129 years after the formation of the American Psychological Association. This is, quite simply: a dereliction in both the Congressional duty & due diligence, to protect our Nation from unstable leadership.

We stand here today, as both Mental Health Advocates & former War Veterans, asking that you join us in calling on Congress to mandate: forensic level, triple-blind testing of any/ALL individuals seeking candidate status for any/ALL Government electoral & appointment Offices. These tests should fully incorporate & utilize the neuroscience technology (brain scans) currently applied in both academia and clinical settings, in determining pathology. The results of these tests should also be immediately released to the voters of the Nation, under our Right to Know Laws and the foundation of Informed Consent. Indeed, no Nation can call itself a Democracy, without elections based upon the informed consent of its voters.

These last several decades of relentless wars, whistleblower persecutions, mounting debt, job losses, ecological & economic crises, disastrous pandemic decisions, and ongoing attacks upon our Constitutional Rights as US Citizens, have proven the results of holding low mental health standards for leadership. It’s a choice we make, every single election cycle.

Do we really want to continue granting our Nuclear Codes, Military Lives, Weaponized Technology’s, Legislative Powers, National Budget, Educational standards, Immigration Laws, Policing, & the Future of our Children’s lives, into the hands of potential con men, mass murderers & pedophiles?!

This is not Ableism, this is Discernment.

There is a notably distinct difference in known outcomes between Predatory & Vulnerable mental disorders. This has been know in the fields of Criminology, Psychology, Forensics, and Health & Human Services, for decades. Granting predators positions of power, only leads to further human suffering. THAT is what we seek to redress & reduce. It’s well past time to filter out the predatory individuals who seek power, from our governance system; & to protect the citizenry from bearing the generational consequences of their unsound leadership decisions.

We have the forensic & technological ability to make this happen, and to make American better for it! Do we still retain the American Will Power to be better then our past?
