Back in August, I submitted a request to add the assumed location of Prince Mortimer's burial (Cove Park in Wethersfield) to the Connecticut Freedom Trail. The Connecticut Freedom Trail designates sites that embody the struggle toward freedom and human dignity, as well as those that celebrate the accomplishments of the state's African American community. They place a granite pillar with the Freedom trail emblem at those sites.

I was intending to work this route in parallel of working with the Wethersfield Historical Society to place signage at the site which would tell the story of Prince Mortimer.

In meetings and communications with the State of Connecticut, they were very interested in this story. Instead of looking at one individual site, they suggested that we pursue a Prince Mortimer Trail!!! They asked that I re-submit, listing the various locations where Prince worked and lived. I re-submitted with a list of 5 sites.

I met with the Connecticut Freedom Trail Committee today to review my submission. I'm pleased to announce, THEY APPROVED IT!!!  We will now be working towards where we can place these markers!

We're currently assuming:

  1. 3 Markers in Middletown, CT
  2. A marker in East Granby, CT.
  3. A marker in Wethersfield, CT.

We still must work with each city and site, but today was a huge win!!!  Thank you all for your continued support!

More to come!
