As we enter Day 5, I would like to extend my gratitude for everyone who has signed the petition so far.
To put forward a proposal to adopt the Union Jack as an Australian Heritage Flag will be seen as a very bold move in Australia - for better in some populations, or for worse for others.
It is important to remember what this petition represents - this proposal to the Australian public is designed to provide an opportunity to enshrine our former national flag, visual connection to our national heritage, and connection to our enduring inherited culture into law.
Separation from Current Political Debates
As an apolitical civil society, the proposal is distinctly separate from the current political debates surrounding the Union Jack in Australian flags.
As such, we encourage you to consider the proposal's merits only within its scope - formal recognition of national heritage, and the Union Jack's role in displaying that as our national flag.
Clarity for Common Public Perceptions
- This proposal deliberately has a very limited scope - seeking only to formally recognise the Union Jack as a Heritage Flag of Australia.
- This proposal does not seek any requirements for public entities to fly or display the Union Jack in any capacity.
- This proposal does not seek to replicate Canada's use of the Union Jack on commemorative occasions.
As a Royalist organisation, we aim to set ourselves apart through the principles of our Mythos:
- intellectual curiosity,
- rejection of dogmatism,
- historical and legal understanding, and
- informed citizenship.
