Dear Foreign Secretary,

I write deeply aggrieved that Israel has shattered the ceasefire in Gaza overnight, resulting in the deaths of over 400 civilians - many of them children.

Even prior to the latest escalations, despite the ceasefire agreement, airstrikes in Gaza had continued. Amongst the victims were eight aid workers and three journalists who were all volunteers from the British charity, Al-Khair Foundation.

Over the last two weeks, Israeli authorities have cut off electricity and blocked all humanitarian aid to Gaza. As you have recognised, these actions violate international humanitarian law. As an occupying power, Israel must protect civillans, facilitate unhindered humanitarian access, and ensure Gaza receives food, medical supplies, and other necessities.

This new wave of attacks is an unconscionable escalation in a crisis that has been ongoing since October 2023. As the Trump Administration has signalled the United States' full support for Israel in this new war effort, the violence continues to intensify, further endangering innocent lives and undermining any prospect of peace.

I urge you to take immediate action by calling for the reinstation of the immediate ceasefire, pressing for the full restoration of humanitarian aid to Gaza and instating a full arms embargo on Israel to prevent further breaches of international law.

The violence we are witnessing is a result of decades of international partners failing to resolve the issue of Palestinian statehood. It is imperative that a solution is found and recognising the state of Palestine is the first step in the peace process to secure a long-lasting two-state solution.

Yours Sincerely,

Afzal Khan MP

Member of Parliament for Manchester Rusholme
