Hi all,

The petition was presented at the Bass Coast Shire Council meeting yesterday. Disappointingly, all Councillors voted to proceed with works to restrict access to the site and restore native vegetation.

As I'm sure you all are, I'm extremely disappointed that Council did not even try to work with us to find a solution. I had suggested several pathways to reach a positive outcome, but  they were not willing to even consider them.

I will say, that Councillors Halstead, Ellis and LeServe all noted the demand for better recreational facilities in Cape Woolamai and urged residents to continue to advocate on this issue. I know this petition caused quite a stir within Council and in the local media, and has at least gotten us some attention.

Councillor Halstead urged Council to prioritise some recreational space for our community.

Councillor Ellis noted:  "If we don't provide the facilities that people want, they'll take matters into their own hands"

Councillor LeServe encouraged the community to work with the Council toward a resolution for recreational space in Cape Woolamai.

I'm pretty annoyed by the result given the passion shown by the community for this issue, but at the very least, hopefully it will lead to better things for Cape Woolamai.

If you want to see more of what was said, it is on youtube here, around the 14 minute mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUC879QeuUg

I'm sorry I couldn't bring better news. :(

Also, there's been some mulch dumped at the end of Cronulla Ave, Cape Woolamai this morning if anyone needs any ;)
