Malvern Hills Pool Supporters,

Last week, Asheville Parks and Recreation published its draft version of the Recreate Asheville plan. In this plan, they have organized their priorities into 4 phases. Phase 1 (short term, 1-4 years) will include building two new major facilities -- a pickle-ball complex and an aquatic facility. It is unlikely that the "new aquatic facility" is Malvern Hills Pool. 

Recreate Asheville Draft Plan

We need to raise our collective voices to let Asheville Parks and Recreation know that it is unacceptable to build a new pool while a 90 year old historic pool sits shuttered due to neglected maintenance.

Question One: What are you most excited about?

Suggested Answer:

I am excited about the opportunity to invest in our existing facilities. On that note, I urge the department to invest in Malvern Hills Pool by rebuilding it. This summer has been unusually hot and the lack of this pool means even fewer recreational opportunities for kids in Asheville. It is absolutely critical that this city maintain the recreational facilities that we HAVE before we invest in new facilities. We must rebuild the pool as it is a landmark facility that has been part of our city for 90 years.

Question Two: Please share any additional comments or thoughts you have on the draft document.

Suggested Answer:

Please prioritize rebuilding Malvern Hills Pool in any future plans. Our city is now down to just two of our existing three outdoor pools. It is confusing that a 'new major aquatic facility' is being considered while Malvern Hills Pool - a facility that we already have - is allowed to sit empty for an entire summer. Please follow the lead of our City Council and begin planning a rebuild of Malvern Hills Pool.
