Reallocate the Proposed 300-Bed Level 5 Hospital to Nyatike Constituency!
Reallocate the Proposed 300-Bed Level 5 Hospital to Nyatike Constituency!
The Issue
We, the residents, taxpayers, and stakeholders of Migori County, call on Governor Ochilo Ayako and the county leadership assembly to urgently reallocate the proposed 300-bed Level 5 referral hospital from Awendo Sub-County to Nyatike Constituency.
While we acknowledge the Ministry of Health's directive (Ref: No.MOH/CS/034/2025), building this mega-facility in Awendo generates structural clinical redundancy. Awendo sits firmly within an urbanized economic axis alongside Rongo and Suna East—a central strip that already captures the vast majority of Migori County's health infrastructure and advanced secondary diagnostic assets.
Conversely, relocating this project to Nyatike Constituency leverages strategic macro-economic investments, addresses extreme localized health hazards, and fulfills national constitutional thresholds for spatial equity and justice. Nyatike urgently needs this Level 5 facility due to:
• Acute Industrial Risks: As the central hub for the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIP), Nyatike is experiencing manufacturing spikes and heavy labor densities that bring severe occupational health risks.
• Blue Economy & Cross-Border Demands: Rapid commercial expansion at Muhuru Pier and Got Kachola Marine Landing Infrastructure exponentially drives up risks for waterborne outbreaks (cholera, acute dysentery) and maritime transport trauma. Maintaining porous aquatic networks with Uganda and Tanzania demands a vital international health shield with specialized isolation infrastructure at the border perimeter.
• Extreme Mining Hazards: Over 30,000 local laborers in the Macalder artisanal gold mining sector face high toxicological risks from mercury and cyanide compounds, alongside severe crushing injuries from frequent tunnel collapses. Nyatike completely lacks advanced chemical toxicology profiling or emergent orthopedic intervention capabilities.
• Environmental Vector Exposure: The Lower Kuja Irrigation Scheme has created a permanent hyper-endemic breeding landscape for Schistosomiasis (bilharzia) and lethal vector strains of malaria, requiring advanced clinical inpatient spaces.
• Broken Referral Pathways: Currently, patients from western Migori must travel up to 70 kilometers across poor terrain directly to Migori County Referral Hospital in Suna East, severely overcrowding the apex center.
Feasibility Advantage: Unlike Awendo, where high urban densities create expensive and complex private land buyout processes, Nyatike contains vast tracts of unencumbered public and community land. This allows for immediate construction with zero compensation overheads.
OUR DEMANDS (FINAL PRAYERS):
1. REJECT the proposed siting of the 300-bed referral complex within Awendo Sub-County due to geographic saturation and structural redundancy.
2. FORMALLY DIRECT the reallocation of the 300-bed Level 5 project to Nyatike Constituency to provide a safety anchor for our mining, agricultural, and Blue Economy workforces.
3. SUBMIT this updated spatial layout priority to the Ministry of Health for national budgetary execution.
Let us build a Migori County where healthcare infrastructure is distributed with equity and justice! Sign this petition to bring emergency and specialized care to Nyatike.
