Plans for a 5-story high-rise condominium by MITSUBISHI ESTATE RESIDENCE CO.LTD. to be constructed in front of the historic temple SHOGOIN MONZEKI, in a parking area owned by Ohtani sect of Shinshu, have already passed Kyoto City government procedures, and building will begin shortly.

  Problem: The building site is located within a designated Scenic Area (protecting mountain views) which insist that construction of large-scale buildings must take into consideration the eastern view of the mountain, reduce the feeling of pressure to the around area, and harmonize with the background mountain and natural greenery, etc. The proposed building is significantly higher than surrounding buildings and it is feared that it will obstruct the view of our beloved mountain.  The more such high-rise construction is allowed, the more the beautiful landscape of the ancient city is lost.
 
The beautiful landscape of Kyoto is for both Kyoto citizens and all people who love Kyoto.  Our petition urges the city government to re-evaluate the current project by MITSUBISHI ESTATE RESIDENCE CO.LTD. and thus protect the treasured atmosphere of eastern Kyoto.
