Friends of the animals RCT

The Issue

Following an 18 month battle with Rhondda Cynon Taff Council's Planning Department we have been threatened with court action if we continue our life saving work at Wonky Towers. The Planning Department have deemed that our cat pens are too large, there is potential for noise and potential for smell. although neither was an issue on their various visits. They are also not happy with road access to and from Wonkies. We did appeal which was refused and after spending almost £2,000 of our hard raised funds we have had to admit defeat. Our Rescue Coordinator and Founder works with children and also is a long standing (30 years)school governor so cannot risk a criminal conviction if we defy this order. Our cat pens that have saved the lives of hundreds of stray, abandoned and injured cats and kittens are being dismantled and we are no longer allowed to have Volunteers come to Wonkies to help take care of the cats and walk the dogs.

We cannot begin to describe to you the effect this heart breaking situation has caused us grief and sleepless nights. We expect to fight man's inhumanity to animals, man's cruel and callous use and abuse of the animals we love, to fight for their lives and to save as many as we are able but we can no longer fight the Planning Department. We would though like to thank Cllr Andrew Morgan Leader of RCT Council, Cllr Susan Pickering, Mayor Cllr Rhys Lewis and Vikki Howells AM for the Cynon Valley for their onging support, help and advice.

12 months ago we launched a Fundrazr because we knew not just that this situation was a possibility but also because we knew that with our own premises we could help so many more animals. We could expand our work with the cats that are in such dire straights and with dogs that we are asked to take but have no room for. We could offer so many more opportunities to people who are desperate to volunteer hands on with our animals and we could continue to say yes when we are contacted for help by the police, social services, mental health teams,, social housing trusts , women's refuges and the many other organisations that contact us for help on an almost daily basis.

Now we need the help of you our supporters. We need to raise funds for a deposit to allow us to purchase a property of our own so that we never have to worry about our animals becoming homeless for a second time. Please support our Fundrazr or make a donation via our Paypal account at foawales@aol.com, or through our account at Barclays Bank. Organise an event and ask anyone you know who may be able to help to support us. The lives of so many animals depends on us finding alternative accommodation for the animals that need us asap. Alternatively if you know of a suitable property we can lease or lease with an agreement to purchase please let us know. It needs to be rural and it needs to have good access. We are not bothered about the condition of a property as we have the best Volunteers anyone could ask for and we know they will make it a little palace for our wonkies and any others that come to us. We can't do this without your help and the animals that we have to turn away may not get another chance.
