Tonight, the Corporate and Resources Committee of Kingston Council will agree to spend £0.8 million of Kingston taxpayers' money on a commercial regeneration project in Kingston Town without our consent

We don't know how much of our money the council wasted on the needless demolition of The Kingfisher Leisure Centre, but we do know that it would have only cost £5 million to repair the roof. Sport England had already refurbished the changing rooms in 2016 and invested this money on the basis that the leisure centre still had many years' life left in it

The council appears to live in a parallel universe where anything goes

It spent millions of pounds of our money on a marketing campaign for a new leisure centre that it knew would never got built MERELY to justify the demolition of The Kingfisher and prevent a legal challenge that would have rightly stopped the razing of our beloved swimming pool to the ground

We no longer know what is real and what is pretence

In such a world, we must continue to lobby to STOP THE DEMOLITION of The Kingfisher

When have people ever felt so strongly about their local pool that they will not let the wrongful demolition of that pool be forgotten before the elected representatives who agreed that demolition have been held to account?

The time has come for us to stand together
