Dear everyone
Thanks to people's generous support, we have raised more than 2/3 of the money needed to seek an Opinion on the legality of Kingston Council's decision to demolish The Kingfisher Leisure Centre
Please donate now so that we can seek an Opinion next week, as early as possible
Given the Liberal Democrat administration's refusal at Full Council last week to consider delaying the demolition until firm and funded plans for a replacement have been agreed with the local community, we need to understand urgently if the decision to demolish might be subject to a legal challenge
If the Opinion says there are grounds for a legal challenge, I will share the Opinion with the Council, putting more pressure on the Council NOT to demolish The Kingfisher at this time
People representing all political interests voted for the motion put forward by Green councillor, Sharron Sumner, to delay demolition until firm plans for a replacement have been agreed; and many Liberal Democrat councillors absented themselves from the vote, seemingly because they do not agree with the demolition being pushed through by their colleagues. One councillor has even resigned from the Kingston Liberal Democrat administration as a result of The Kingfisher demolition plans.
I urge everyone, including all the councillors who voted at Full Council to stop the demolition or who disagree with the demolition, to support the fundraising
It is time that we all stand together as individuals and insist that Kingston Council makes decisions that are democratic and legally sound
Please support the fundraiser now, before it is too late
