Another day has passed, and another attempt has been made by Kingston Council to tell us how amazing it will be if a massive new leisure centre, that could cost £50 million and more, is built on The Kingfisher Site
You can watch Kingston Council's latest video about how the leisure centre of which they dream for Kingston will be like here and read below the main things people say about the new Hackney Leisure Centre on which they hope to model a new leisure centre in Kingston
Please ask yourself if the video actually gives any justification for why so much money should be spent on an uncertain and costly venture such as this when people have nothing meaningful say about it even when it has just opened.
After all, a pool is a pool and we do not need "state of the art" leisure facilities. And we certainly don't need "leisure and community uses on the roof" in a Conservation Area. We just need The Kingfisher.
And also remember that the quid pro quo for the Hackney Leisure Centre is massive high-rise development all around it. The new pool will be rather busier once all the towers are fully occupied.
Councillor Kerr, Council Leader: "I'm going to look inside the Hackney Leisure Centre to see what we can hope for"
Resident 1: It's got the WOW factor - it's massive, that's generally been the word that's been in use; it's amazing. It feels like a hotel"
Resident 2: "It'e really clean; it's really new; the staff are areally friendly and they know what's going on"
Resident 3: "It's unbelievable. I mean the pool's good: I've used it about 20 times"
Resident 4: ""I thought fantastic, absolutely lovely... I thought, ooh, this place is lovely"

Let's show Kingston Council that more and more people oppose the demolition of The Kingfisher Leisure Centre
