Thank you to everybody who has signed this petition to save Kingston's Kingfisher Leisure Centre from demolition by Kingston Council who want to flatten it in order to facilitate large-scale high-rise development plans on its site and the wider historic Cattle Market site in ancient Kingston Town

News channels are now full of information about the benefits of swimming and the urgent need to refurbish existing swimming pools and build new ones where facilities are lacking

In this clip from Channel 5 news alone, we learn that regular swimming:

  • saves the NHS £350 million in reduced disease and ill health
  • helps 1.4 million people to be less anxious
makes adults to feel 12 years younger
  • helps people's physical and mental health
  • supports bonding

Swim England is calling for the refurbishment of existing pools and the building of new pools in areas of deficit for swimming facilities - such as the south of the Royal Borough

Sport England has objected to the demolition of The Kingfisher Leisure Centre

So the big question still remains -

Why doesn't Kingston Council refurbish The Kingfisher and use the £40 million it says it would cost to build a new leisure centre on the Kingfisher site to build another swimming pool in the south of the Borough?

Please keep sharing this petition and let's start creating waves

Kingston Council's plans to demolish The Kingfisher simply do not stack up

We must stop the demolition of The Kingfisher now
