The latest shock news is that, as recently as 2015, Kingston Council accepted a grant from Sport England of £336,000 for a full refurbishment of the changing rooms on the basis that The Kingfisher Leisure Centre would remain open and operating for a period of 25 years

It is also perhaps no surprise that today a leaflet has been distributed by the administration of the council announcing "exciting plans for a new swimming pool in Kingston"

The leaflet claims that The Kingfisher is "no longer fit for purpose" and that a new leisure centre is "due to open in 2024"

But where is the evidence to support either of these claims?
