Kompass is open again!
Mar 28, 2019 —
With some delay…
This Tuesday the Council of State has suspended the administrative measure applied by the mayor of Ghent. This means Kompass will be allowed to open its doors again...
What a rollercoaster, I started the petition proactively to avoid any closure, even a temporarily one. At a certain point of time it looked like it wouldn’t happen but then two weeks ago the bomb dropped... The mayor announced the closure for 4 months with a possible reopening after 2 months. Practically this would have meant the end of Kompass Klub!!
What happened then is so beautiful and probably the only scene where this can and will happen. The techno community stand up, on national and international level and supported Kompass however they could. Demonstrations got organized, #savekompass was used one every post, clubs, dj’s on national and international level shared their opinion, even other politicians that didn’t agree with the approach of the major of Ghent showed their support for the club.
I would like to thank you all for sharing the petition and signing it, the effort was small but the impact and visibility it created was huge!
Special thanks to Fuse Brussels, C12 Brussels, Club Vaag Antwerp, Ampere Antwerp, Fabric London, Extrema Outdoor Belgium, De Shop Anwerp, Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, Nina Kraviz, Richie Hawtin, Len Faki, Pan-Pot, BICEP, Chris Liebing, Dave Clarke, Steve Bug, Boys Noize, Rebekah, Dax J, Joyhauser, Franky Jones, Marco Bailey, Lucy and all others I might forget for you support towards Kompass Klub!!!
Over 14.000 ravers have signed this petition, this wasn’t possible without your support!!
Therefore, the petition is closed again and from the bottom of my heart I hope it remains closed and that in 5-10-15-20-25 etc. years we can all look back at a turbulent period but one that helped the club and the city to improve the collaboration and puts Ghent back on the techno map with this magnificent venue and organisation.
What’s Next? This Friday we have Ame&Marcel Dettmann and Sam Paganini in Fuse Brussels who are teaming up, hopefully this is the last Kompass on tour under these circumstances…
And next Friday 5th of April, we have the reopening of our Kompass in our beloved warehouse here in Ghent with Dubfire all night long!!!
Ravers! I wish you all amazing nights, go crazy but be safe and take care of each other!!!
