Dear Signers,

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh recently misbehaved with a news reporter. The video is a telling testimony of how this bahubali is still going about his life with no fear of consequences for allegedly preying on young female wrestlers. At the start of the video, he’s just dodging the questions, but when asked whether he’ll resign from his post as a Member of Parliament until the investigation against him is completed, Singh shouts at the reporter before walking towards his vehicle. He then slams the door and almost breaks the reporter’s hand

Delhi Police has now submitted a chargesheet saying that based on the investigation so far, Singh was “liable to be prosecuted and punished for offences” of sexual harassment, molestation and stalking. Before the Delhi Police stepped in to investigate the wrestlers’ allegations, as early as February, the government had set up an Oversight Committee to probe the allegations against Singh.

The protesting wrestlers had deposed before the Oversight Committee — comprising boxer Mary Kom, London Olympics bronze medal-winning wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, former badminton player Trupti Murgunde, former SAI executive director Radhica Sreeman, former chief executive of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme Rajesh Rajagopalan, and former wrestler Babita Phogat — and had shared experiences of being sexually harassed by Singh. However, in its report, the Committee didn’t raise a single red flag about the alleged sexual harassment perpetrated by Singh.

Now based on the same evidence that the wrestlers had first presented to the Oversight Committee, Delhi Police in its chargesheet, has charged Singh under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman); 354 A (sexual harassment), and 354 D (stalking), and asked a Delhi court to summon Singh and other witnesses. Singh has been asked to appear before the court on July 18.

This should make us wonder whether those who were part of the government's Oversight Committee performed their job in a fair and unbiased manner.

Some of the testimonies of wrestlers who allegedly faced sexual harassment by Singh are distressing and triggering. You can read more about them in this report

While the court will probe the matter further, all I can say is that after watching Singh’s misbehaviour with the female reporter from Times Now, I shudder to think how this man would behave in private when no one is pointing a camera at him.
