Thanks to YOU — your signatures, your shares, your pressure — Living Lchaim issued a proper apology on April 18.
They acknowledged that they hadn’t done their research before featuring Raphi as a guest, and didn’t realize he is a Gett refuser. Once they found out, they say they worked behind the scenes to attempt to procure a Gett and free Adeena. Those efforts ultimately failed — Raphi strung them along, repeatedly claiming they were “close” to giving the Gett and just needed more time. It now appears this was a bad-faith stall tactic, designed to let public pressure die down.
But thanks to you, the pressure did NOT die down. It is clear that the outcry against the initial statement was a significant factor in pushing them to take accountability. We commend them for correcting course.
Communal Rally
Additionally, on April 12, dozens of community members — men, women, families — turned out in Monsey, R’s hometown. The message was clear: this community will not be silenced, and we will uphold the harchakos d’Rabbeinu Tam, the 900-year-old halachic precedent for confronting Gett refusers.
Local media covered the rally, expanding awareness of Adeena’s plight and the broader crisis facing agunos worldwide. Thank you to law enforcement, community rabbis, and every person who showed up.
Next Steps
Despite the tremendous progress, R still has not given a Gett. Now is the moment to hold firm. The opposition needs to see that we are united and we are not tiring out.
Here’s what we’re asking of you today:
- Share this petition – now updated to be a call for R to give a Gett – with at least 2 people. Tell them why you signed and ask them to sign too. It is very important that we hit 1,000 signatures.
- Post about it in a family, friend, or community group chat.
- Donate to Adeena’s GoFundMe if you can. This funds the multi-pronged effort to secure her freedom.
- Follow this Instagram page, where the full timeline of events is being documented and more frequent updates will be shared.
One More Thing
In the event this case drags on, we have secured a documentary crew to follow our work and produce a film for the Jewish community — to expose this form of religious domestic abuse and the active and passive enablers who allow it to continue.
Thank you for everything you have done to free Adeena and end Gett abuse. Please help us see this through.
