PD POLLS | PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim merely shrugged when reporters asked him for comments on his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's intention to take part in the Port Dickson by-election.

Anwar was attending the launch of PKR's campaign headquarters at the PD Waterfront in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan today when news about Saiful's plans broke.

At the same event, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told supporters that the party will deal tactfully deal with possible allegations coming from Saiful.

"Dia baling tahi, kita sambut dengan bunga (if he throws faeces as at us, we will greet him with flowers)," Saifuddin said at a press conference after the event.

According to several news reports, Saiful said his decision to be a candidate had nothing to do with personal issues or partisan politics.

"I just want to represent the people and celebrate democracy," said Saiful, according to Free Malaysia Today.

Saiful, 33, was formerly a staffer at Anwar's office. In 2008, he lodged a police report alleging that he was sodomised by his then boss.

This set in motion a legal battle that ended with Anwar being jailed in 2015.

Anwar was eventually granted a full pardon by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on May 16 after the fall of the BN federal government.
