Petition updateRaise Your Voice for Waters EcologyVote Wednesday!

Dear All,  Two years ago you joined with 1500 other people to raise your voice in support of the ecology program at Waters School. The subsequent changes at Waters School, while supported by some, caused hurt to others. In this time of multiple environmental crises it is more important than ever that our entire community joins together to rally behind the education of our children. To prepare them for an uncertain future, yes, but also to send them into that future with a feeling of hope that they can fix the problems that they have inherited from us.

On Wednesday this week (April 10), schools around Chicago will be holding elections for their Local School Councils. These elections can seem dull and unimportant; some will tell you that Local School Councils have no real power, so why bother. Nothing could be further from the truth. Local School Councils were created as a forum to allow parents, teachers, and importantly the whole community to have a say in the education of our children. They are emblematic of a school’s position at the heart of its community, and of the ideal that the whole community should be vested in our children’s education. The Waters School Garden was born from this ideal and has long extended this mission by inviting everyone to join together in the creation of an unmatched resource that has inspired 30 years of the children who have passed through the school.

So, if you live in the Waters School enrollment area, please raise your voice again, vote in the Local School Council election, and know that your vote is certain to make a difference. We are lucky enough to have an excess of excellent candidates running this year.
