Positive news as the Prime Minister Theresa May spoke to Diabetes UK about the problems faced by children with Type 1 diabetes and other long-term medical conditions in school. Whilst she was opening the new Diabetes UK offices, their Chief Executive took the chance to mention that despite a law saying that all schools should have a medical conditions policy to care for children with Type 1 diabetes, many don’t or aren’t even aware they need one.   We’ll have to wait and see what her reaction is, but it can only be good thing that she understands the problems our kids are facing and how easily things could be improved if Ofsted an the Ministers did more to let schools know about the law. Let’s hope as someone with Type 1 diabetes herself she’ll appreciate what a challenge living with the condition can be, and that kids need all the support they can get in school.   There’s a blog post from Diabetes UK Chief Executive Chris Askew on the meeting which mentions his meeting with the Prime Minister and (near the bottom) our petition!   Remember to keep sharing the petition on social media, email and anywhere else, with anyone who might be interested. We’re getting close to 7000 signatures now so thanks so much to everyone who’s already signed!
