Thank you all, again, for all the support shown recently.
- BOARD MEETING: On 2/23/24, an email was sent out by a current LP board member to students’ parents, in what I assume was in response to the petition. Though in principle I can appreciate it, the execution was still disappointing — the letter failed to address the severe bullying/harassment within the study body/faculty mentioned in the petition and its comments, and it additionally did not address why the school was silent on the three student suicides. Several LP students and I have found the letter to be vague in its action plan to improve the school's environment. The board members additionally did not respond to emails sent by me and 2 other alumni earlier last week, in which we shared the petition and personal anecdotes of our negative experiences being at LP. The board member's letter was not sent to us. As a result, I am planning on attending an upcoming board meeting to directly bring up issues mentioned in the petition, including proposing a structural plan that will hopefully improve the school's response to bullying being reported, handling mental health crises and deaths of students, and in general emotionally supporting their students and families. If you have any interest in either attending or contributing to the board meeting, please email me at juliamarcellaa@gmail.com
- LPPACS SURVIVOR SUPPORT FORM: In my last update, I sent out a Google Form for past and current LP students to document their stories of how they were negatively treated at the school by students/faculty, and/or how the faculty failed to support them after the report was made. I have read through all of your stories, and my heart goes out to all of you who have suffered from the school's environment; many people wrote about how they had become suicidal due to being severely bullied, and were additionally crushed by reporting their bully/harasser/assaulter to faculty which resulted in nothing happening. I encourage those who submitted their stories to review the Department of Education's Educator Misconduct page: Educator Misconduct. Also, I have read several stories of how students were not allowed to openly grieve about my brother's death, or how the school was unsupportive to student-led memorials for Anita, Maddox, and Joe. These are all issues that I will aim to bring up to the board. Thank you again for contributing to this form and for sharing your stories.
