In my last post, I talked about the recent stories that have come out of UNR. This includes Peter Cvjetanovic's participation in the white supremacist rally, Nazi swastikas painted in campus hallways, photographs of UNR police officer dressed in blackface as Colin Kaepernick, and police caught on tape talking about shooting a black graduate student. In a recent article in News Review, an alumnus suggested that UNR take more aggressive action instead of just posting "statement after tepid statement" of how they condemn this behavior. He suggests inviting Colin Kaepernick (a UNR alumn) to the university to run one of his "Know your rights" camps, among other activities (you can see all the suggestions in the article linked below). Many great students and staff on campus have also made suggestions to the university on tangible steps they can take to address these issues. My question to you is, what do you think the university should do? Leave in the comments below, and I will update the petition accordingly. Tangible steps that the university has the power to take, other than just releasing tired, meaningless statements. Also, consider sharing what you have done to combat similar issues in your area. Are you involved with a charity, organization, non-profit? Have you informed others about this news? This may give others ideas about how they can get involved.
