Justice for Jason Contreras

Justice for Jason Contreras
The Issue
On November 29, 2017 my brother Jason Matthew Contreras (32 year old Hispanic man) was shot by A white man which was less than 6 feet away from him at the time. It was over a dispute that had nothing to do with my brother. He shot my brother FIVE times. He plied “No contest” to Voluntary Manslaughter, as though a guilty plea had been answered but does not admit guilt. Voluntary manslaughter is a killing of a human being in which the offender acted during the “heat of passion”. The district attorney on Jason’s case agreed with this man’s attorney on a plea deal for 11 years. The case never had the opportunity to go to trial, as we wanted. The system failed my brother, who was a FATHER, son, brother, and friend. Jason was murdered November 29, 2017. His murderer fled from “Justice” until caught on April 20, 2018. It has taken almost 3 years for his sentencing. On September 28, 2020 it will be 893 days that the defendant has been in custody but of how the system works he will receive up to 15% of credit. Which means he will have a credit of 1,132 days before going to prison. He will serve the rest of his time in prison, with a 20% credit. I am asking that you sign this petition so that this mans time starts on the day of sentencing September 28, 2020. If this petition does not help Jason then the defendant will be out in less than 8 years
