Dear Supporters,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support of our petition to address the discriminatory 12-year US Karate Hijab rule that impacts only Muslim female athletes. Your willingness to stand with me in this fight for inclusivity and fairness means more than words can express.
Your signatures, comments, and shares have brought much-needed attention to this critical issue. As you know, the unchanged 12-year US Karate Hijab discriminatory rule has had a profound impact on Muslim female athletes who wish to compete without compromising their religious beliefs. The rule stands in direct contradiction to constitutional amendments, and state and federal laws, including Title IX and The Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act.
Despite an ongoing investigation that has lasted for a year, the discriminatory rule remains unchanged. This has forced us to make the difficult decision not to attend the US Nationals 2024 in Lafayette, LA a choice made to avoid causing an unfair distraction for other athletes, coaches, and officials.
But most importantly, I am avoiding subjecting myself to the emotional misconduct I experienced at past National competitions. The enforcement of this rule is deeply disappointing and discouraging, but to be pressured into making this type of decision after years of dedication and development is insurmountable.
I'm the first athlete to stand up against this 12-year unjust rule, I'm courageously speaking out for my right to compete without compromising my beliefs. In response, USA Karate has attempted to isolate me and keep this matter quiet, rather than addressing the systemic discrimination at play.
We are not giving up; rather, we are committed to pursuing this matter with integrity and honor. Please comment likes are good but we need engagement!!!!. Your support is a vital part of this journey, and together, we can push for the changes needed to ensure that all athletes, including those who wear hijab, can compete freely and without fear of harassment, humiliation, discrimination, or restriction.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support. Please continue to spread the word and encourage others to join our cause. Please comment on any post expressing how you feel. Together, we can make a difference and create a more inclusive environment in the sport we love.
Sincerely,
Raeesah the Hijabi Athlete
