Review the consitution of Queensland to reinstate a small upper house in Queensland.

The issue

The erosion of the integrity of the institutions of democracy in Queensland has once again reached a point that the rights and liberties of the citizens of this State are  incrementally being eroded by a government with a contempt for the rule of law and the principles of good governance.

Once more, Queensland and Queenslanders are derided by other Australians.

Unlike the other States of Australia, Queensland has no checks and balances to protect people from the capricious whims of an ideologically driven unicameral Parliament.

The Parliamentary Committee system is no match for the Executive Government's excessive misuse of its legislative powers.

Queensland needs to reinstate a house of review to protect its citizens from scenarios such as those we now face.

This need not be a large chamber, indeed for reasons of economy and efficiency we ask that it be kept small.  After all - this is the government that has promoted itself as "lean and mean".

We ask that in reinstating the upper house, the Queensland Government comply with the UN Charter for Global Democracy, and in particular its three key fundamental principals:

. Openness and accountability

. Environmental sustainability

. Equality and justice

We call on all Members of the Legislative Assembly to treat this petition with the respect it deserves and to heed its content.  To do otherwise, will ultimately be to your political peril.....
