Petition updateCivilian oversight and changes to police misconduct and corruption investigationsTHERE IS A NEED FOR CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT NOW MORE THAN EVER!

Good evening folks. Our petition is sittiTo ng at 59,067 tonight, just under 1000 away from our goal of 60,000 signatures.

Now more than ever there is a need for civilian oversight regarding issues like deaths in custody and complaints against police.

I will be releasing a survey shortly regarding people's experiences with making complaints against police, to correlate certain measures. A person stalking me around this petition and making inappropriate comments raised the issue that the proposed survey would be biased. Well my answer to that is we want to hear from people who have had these types of interactions, because the data will be valuable from the point of view of uncovering patterns of behaviour. To be successful, we will require at least 5,000 participants across Australia, so this survey will be open to people in other States so we can get a picture of what is happening in each State/Territory of Australia.

Recent events in Queensland are very concerning. The fact that police were not wearing body cams in the latest police shooting in Queensland speaks volumes about a lack of accountability. On the opposite end of the scale, police have been extra busy publishing media releases that feed into engendering sympathy for police in their job.

In the mean time, it is hoped that we will be able to submit this petition along with the ePetition calling for the dismissal of the Qld Police Commissioner, which is due in MAY 2023.

For those who have not signed that petition I will put up the link again in this update. Unfortunately only residents from Queensland are able to sign that petition.

For this petition, can I ask for one LAST GOOD EFFORT to promote it. Please share the link among your networks/family/friends. The link to share is:
