FOLKS, today I post about an issue that seems prevalent when a Queensland Police Officer is charged with a serious crime.
As the attached media article demonstrates, (this is a carbon copy of the media release by QPS on their website), this person is not named publicly, and the Police 'Service' goes one better by saying 'an allegation is not proof the person did it'.
While I am all for EVERY PERSON HAS THE PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE, what is quite clear here is that the Police NEVER issue any statements that it is just an allegation and not proven when they arrest a member of the public. In almost every case, members of the public who are charged are named in the media!
On top of this, police when they are charged and face court for sentencing, the usual 'out' is that they 'suffer from post traumatic stress' and would suffer more if they were sent to jail.
It would be interesting indeed to do a comparative study of sentencing of members of the public and compare that to sentences criminal police officers receive.
In the mean time, we are edging towards our goal of 50,000 signatures with 5,377 left to obtain. If you can help out, please share the URL for this petition among your networks: https://www.change.org/reform-Queensland-Police
