NO ACTION TAKEN AGAINST POLICE IN 90% OF CASES?

Keith OwenBrisbane, Australia

In Queensland, we have had a spate of cases where police have unlawfully accessed QPrime (Police Database) for their own personal reasons! It has been reported in the media that NO ACTION IS TAKEN IN 90% OF CASES! YES THAT IS CORRECT, 90% OF POLICE WHO DO THIS GET OFF SCOTT FREE!

Neil Punchard is a case that comes to the fore in this regard. He accessed QPrime to get information to leak to his mate - presuming to perpetrate EVEN MORE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Punchard did this 9 TIMES!

Punchard refused to answer questions in court - to avoid 'incriminating himself'. PUNCHARD THEN APPEALS THE CONVICTIONS AND GETS OFF WITH NO CONVICTION RECORDED!

THIS DOES NOT MEET OUR CIVILIAN COMMUNITY STANDARDS.

The Crime and Corruption Commission published a report in February 2020, recommending changes and warning public servants (including police) against accessing information they are not entitled to.

SO HERE WE ARE, WELL OVER A YEAR LATER, AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO PROTECT ORDINARY CITIZENS FROM THIS BEHAVIOUR IN QUEENSLAND.

Today the Queensland Information Commissioner did a media release, indicating that laws need to be strengthened in Queensland. Lets see if and what the Government here does.

I PERSONALLY THINK - AND I KNOW A LOT OF YOU WILL AGREE, POLICE SHOULD NOT HAVE THE OPTION OF REMAINING SILENT TO PROTECT THEIR CRIMINALITY!

The STANDARDS required of police should be at a much higher level than that held for the general community.

The thing is folks - I work as a health practitioner in a medical practice. If I accessed details about someone I know on our data base, I would be SACKED instantly. No appeals, no 'right to remain silent', just SACKED. This standard SHOULD apply to police.

HELP US OUT FOLKS - Please share this petition among your networks/friends/family and lets get it going viral to send a clear message to the Queensland Government.
