Big development in this Air France 447 accident.
Airline operators rigidly follow the advice and training syllabi provided by the manufacturers. For this failure scenario of "Unreliable Speed", relying solely on a memory recall procedure without exposure to realistic training in the simulator, which should not be that difficult to replicate, is short-sighted and puts the pilots in the position of being blamed for mismanagement. There is no doubt errors were made by the flight crew but it is the responsibility of the manufacturers to modify and provide realistic training and guidance based on accident reports to airline operators. AF447 and the recent MCAS accidents, as well as #QF72, are cases in point.
