To all our wonderful supporters,
I just like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and kind words for our real heroes of Qantas Flight 72 who on the 7th of October 2008 saved 315 passengers and crew from certain death.
Today, I addressed an email directly to the Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport The Hon Michael McCormack MP, the Chief Executive Officer of Qantas Group Mr. Alan Joyce and to the Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Cities & Regional Development The Hon Anthony Albanese MP regarding our Petition.
Below is a copy of that email for your information and I do apologise if there are errors in there. I will keep you all updated as soon as I hear anything back. Thank you.

Dear Mr. Deputy Prime Minister Hon Michael McCormack MP,
We have not met but my name is Fuzzy Maiava and I am respectfully writing this letter to ask for your full support and consideration in recognising and honouring Qantas Captain Kevin Sullivan (Ret.) and his men namely First Officer Peter Lipsett and Second Officer Ross Hales as National Heroes for their heroic actions in saving the lives of 315 passengers and crew on Qantas Flight 72 on the 7th of October 2008.
These courageous men, led by Sullivan critically handled an Airbus A330 Qantas Flight 72 from almost certain disaster when all they could see was the Indian Ocean. 119 passengers and crew were injured (some seriously) in what was described by some of the worlds leading aviation experts "a very unique incident which did not result in death".
Sullivan a born American served in the U.S. Navy as a Top Gun Fighter Pilot, had no other option but to execute a military manoeuvre. A move Sullivan had practiced many times in the Navy for similar situations. In doing so, he and his crew avoided the possibility of another sudden nosedive which would have been catastrophic and fatal.
Ten years on and still no public recognition received, Sullivan now medically retired faces an uphill battle and the struggles of managing his PTSD constantly every day. This extraordinary and remarkable human being has certainly gone above and beyond the call of duty and has certainly ticked all the boxes by far. A very modest and well-respected citizen, Sullivan downplays his heroics acknowledging that it was a team effort just doing their job.
Sullivan has had a huge impact on my life and he is certainly “The Man” you could always call on when it mattered most. Trust me, I know this, because he saved my life, and this is my small contribution of saying thank you by initiating a public petition to have Sullivan and his men get the recognition and acknowledgment they rightfully deserve for their heroic actions from ten years ago.

So I humbly and respectfully ask you, to please take into consideration of their absolute selfless act, bravery, skill, cool-headed display and against all odds brought all 315 passengers and crew safely back home to their loved ones in what was described by many of the passengers as the Terror Flight From Hell!
Sullivan and his men deserve to be recognised and honoured for their remarkable achievements and loyal service to Qantas Airways Limited and to the people of Australia and around the world.
Not only did they save the lives of many but also helped play a major role in solidifying the iconic Qantas Brand of Australia and its reputation worldwide.
I sincerely thank you for your valuable time and I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest.
Sincerely,
Fuzzy Maiava
