Don't help deport an elderly, sick refugee back to near-certain death
The Issue
Within hours, a sick, elderly refugee who fled danger is facing deportation to Iraq -- with Qantas and Emirates likely to back this cruelty.
His brother was granted asylum. But this elderly refugee who has been left sick in detention is still facing deportation. He's been taken to hospital 3 times in the last two weeks -- and is in 'precarious health'.
Cruelly, he didn't know he could appeal his deportation notice -- but instead of listening to his plea, Peter Dutton is trying to quietly fly them out of the country.
Urgent petitions to Qantas have stopped unfair deportations before. But we need thousands of signatures in the coming hours.
We have this message from him, via his lawyer: "I'm extremely grateful and overwhelmed by the support shown by the Australian community for his plight. I'm a family man and want to live out my days quietly in Australia. I only asks that the government hear my full story before making a decision to send me back to a country where, as a member of a persecuted minority group, I face violence."
