Thank you to members of our community who have supported and signed to show that we have had ENOUGH.
We are building momentum and that is thanks to you all, and the sharing of the petition.
Interestingly enough I found this article online that Sheryl Mai (Whangarei Mayor) released on 4th July 2022 prior to starting this petition.
She has acknowledged the increase in crime and how alot of the community are at ease or feeling unsafe. But what was made evidentally clear is that she has not stated a plan going forward to minimise these types of behaviour.
As Sheryl Mai states in this article;
"If the solution were simple, we would've solved it by now. We need to come together as a diverse and empowered community, to design a strategy that will protect our communities, identify causes of behaviour, and find ways to work with our young people, not against them. I thank the people who are already seeking positive solutions. We all have a part to play. Collectively, we all want what's best for every young person, and for them to feel a sense of hope and pride in their lives. They are our future"
It was all very well putting forward the article, but it leads me to believe that is was released because of the pressure she is receiving from the community ( and rightfully so) and the more WE KEEP the PRESSURE ON the more results we may receive in trying to achieve Whangarei as a SAFER COMMUNITY .
