Normally, the Maple Leaf would be taken DOWN from the Peace Tower on the First of July, and replaced with the personal flag of the governor general, as she attends Canada Day ceremonies on the Hill. So says the rule this petition seeks to change. But, with renovations underway, the party (and the governor general) moved to the west end of town, so the Canadian flag is keeping its place of honour, this July 1st.

But it’s only temporary. Once the celebration moves back to Parliament Hill, our flag will be forced to surrender its place to vice-regal and royal flags again...including on Canada Day.  Even now, our flag is bumped to second place or removed everywhere the governor general or any of the 10 provincial lieutenant-governors appears. 

Let’s stop that. Share this petition to put the Maple Leaf first at all times in its own country. There’s no better gift we can give the flag, especially on our country’s birthday!
