Put Free Hygiene Products in Bathrooms

The Issue

This is a petition to get free emergency tampons and pads in every non-residential bathroom on the Baylor University campus. We believe each restroom should have a fully functional distribution machine stocked with both pads and tampons freely available to those in need of one. A few of our supporting arguments are:

  1. Tampons and pads are not luxury items. They are what we insist on calling them – hygiene products. We provide toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap for free; tampons and pads are just as necessary.
  2. We would not need to upgrade the products currently provided. We would, however, need to keep machines full and functional, and add machines in bathrooms where they do not currently exist.
  3. This promotes health and hygiene for everyone.
  4. Other universities have already started doing this. Brown University led the way, now others are following suit. The New York Public School System already provides free hygiene supplies in every school restroom. Some states are even proposing free hygiene products in all public and government buildings.
  5. 86% of women report having started their period unexpectedly in public without the necessary supplies. 79% of women claim they have had to improvise with toilet paper or something else in lieu of a tampon or pad. 58% of Baylor’s student body are women who would greatly benefit from readily available emergency hygiene products.

Sign this petition if you agree that tampons and pads are necessary hygiene products that should be freely available on Baylor's campus!
