At last night's study session a board member mentioned that the proposed start time changes (the stated reason for the sweeping changes that are being proposed) were never given with the caveat that this will result in school closures, an end to DWO schools, etc., and asked if they could put that off. Pekel said "no". When you propose to hold off on the source of a "problem" and the answer is "no" from the person that came up with the "solution", there is likely an agenda that is trying to be pushed through and the source of the problem is simply a reason to push this through.

Also, it was finally stated publicly that Pekel and his team hope to phase out DWO and make them all but 14% neighborhood schools within 5 years. This will result in a loss of RPS students to private schools and surrounding districts (initiating a downward spiral of even less state funding,  reduced test scores, and more future cuts).

RPS students do not need another boundary redraw. The 22% of elementary school kids the Pekel team say will be affected are just those who move schools, their friends and school communities will also be affected.

Our school district is (was) content, and those who live here and serve on our school board know the strengths of our district.

No alternatives to this plan have been given. The school board needs to say "come up with a solution that costs the same, but impacts fewer lives", as would be done in any other business or governmental setting.
