The counterfeit vending on Canal Street is an issue that's persisted for years, and while my office has been able to get improved enforcement from City Hall in the past, it's always been short term.

Earlier this week, I was made aware of this petition regarding the deteriorating conditions on Canal Street, and it's become clear that the situation has become worse than ever before.

After seeing the petition, I met with residents of the block, and my office has been coordinating with them, as well as other elected officials, to get more support from the Adams administration.

Today, myself and Assembly Member Deborah Glick sent a letter to Mayor Adams and Commissioner Tisch, making all the requests listed in the petition. (Letter Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zKuvkVgqvwnYLhe7nz0hWSlRyqkD02Ri/view)

We also invited them to join us and community members on a walkthrough of Canal Street, so they can see firsthand the conditions from these counterfeit vendors and hear from you all directly.

I wanted to thank you all for your advocacy and organizing, and I will be sure to keep you updated once we get a response from Mayor Adams and Commissioner Tisch.

Thank you,
Council Member Christopher Marte
