BREAKING NEWS:

Finally. 

"The document that everyone has been calling for since 2013, the sworn testimony of Stephen Dank relating to his involvement in the Essendon Football Club supplement saga"  - Fran Kelly on RN Breakfast 

Journalist Warwick Hadfield has obtained Stephen Dank's 14 page, 81 paragraph affidavit sworn before a Victorian Solicitor (perjury carries a 15 year custodian sentence).   

This is the first time Stephen Dank has made a public statement under oath and the veracity of this document is backed up by the fact that it is going to a brief of evidence prepared for a court hearing against ASADA early next year.  

The affidavit purportedly states that at no time during his time at Essendon Football Club did Stephen Dank take procession of the Thymosin Beta 4.  

From a legal point, a sworn affidavit is far more evidentially significant than anything ASADA or WADA advanced in any case against the players. It directly contradicts the tangential and tenuously circumstantial case on which the players were suspended. It’s pretty problematic for the entire outcome unless or until Dank can be cross-examined.

In terms of Dank’s motives for waiting so long to give such a statement, there are a number of collateral reasons why that might be. None of them good or necessarily legal, but the delay might not be anything that’s prejudicial to the players’ innocence.

Justice for the 34 renews its call for an Independent inquiry into anti-doping with wide ranging terms of reference which allow all sporting bodies, all athletes, and all interested parties to make representations.

This is in the national interest, and it will help all athletes, not just the Essendon 34.
