The system is not broken, it was built this way. I want to explain why we need a Law. While there are already recommendations, there will be NO consequences for breaking these. They are mere recommendations and while it sounds good, professionals will suffer no consequences for breaking these. Lawyers can’t work with recommendations…a law has to be broken.
The family Doctor (he prescribed 30 lorazepam and lexapro in a ten minute telephone consult) and psychiatrist (Madi’s first time seeing a psychiatrist) in Madisyn’s case were not disciplined. The only apology received was from the hospital for not holding a family meeting. No staff suffered disciplinary action here as it’s just a recommendation. I had to request this apology.
The Canadian mental health system needs a complete over haul. Lots of people are advocating for change. We’re one of them…please support Madi’s Law. Let’s improve the system and save lives!
