I shared earlier that the House of Commons does not recognize change.org petitions. To get around this we needed a 25 signature written petition. I actually sent in 50 signatures to make double sure we had enough. We've been waiting for signatory verification from the clerk. Good News...Today Zach at Member of Parliament Valerie Bradford's office called to let me know the we have received signatory verification!

I'm sharing Zach's email from back in July below to remind supporters of the next steps. We're on our way! Please remember that even though the change.org signatures are not recognized in the House of Commons they are still EXTREMELY important. It shows the Canadian government that we have eyes on them. We can't stop now! The more supporters the better!

Here's the email from Zach in July 2023

Hi Louise,

Everything has been received, and we’re just waiting for signatory verification from the Clerk. I’ll reach out and see if they can give me any update in terms of the timeline for verification.

After verification, the next step is tabling the petition in the House of Commons – this is when the clock starts for the government to respond. Since the House has risen for the summer, it won’t be until the House resumes sitting in September that this part can occur.

If you want to give supporters a timeline, it would be safe to say that the petition will be tabled in the Fall and a government response provided thereafter.

Zach

The House of Commons resumed September 18th, 2023. A big thank you to Zach for his help. Please continue to share! We can do this!
