Stop the Industrialization of Flamingo Avenue in Montauk!

DEAR NEIGHBOR:

The Long Island Power Authority along with PSEG Long Island (“PSEG”) is considering purchasing four plots of land (20 Fenwick Pl., 22 Fenwick Pl., 66 Fairmont Ave., and 68 Fairmont Ave.; the “Flamingo Avenue site”) to build a football field sized electrical substation site (approx. 60,000 square feet) in the middle of a residential neighborhood in Montauk. This is one of Montauk’s primary traffic thruways and is highly visible to residents and visitors alike.

The plots of land are currently vacant, covered in trees, and zoned for residential use.  The map in the photo shows the plots of land for the new substation and surrounding residential areas. The proposed substation will sit in between one of Montauk’s critical water wells (at the south side of the water recharge overlay) and the Montauk Playhouse Community Center & Child Care, surrounded by hundreds of homeowners, including Montauk Manor residents and guests.  Building a massive substation in the middle of a residential neighborhood threatens the health, safety, and welfare of all Montauk residents.  It is dangerous, reckless, and irresponsible.

Once PSEG Long Island and LIPA purchase the Fenwick Pl. and Fairmont Ave. land, the substation is a done deal.  The Town of East Hampton claims the utilities have pledged to go through the Town Planning Board site process – but don’t be fooled, this process will be limited in scope only to opine on the plans for the site, NOT the actual location of the site itself (that is determined when the utilities purchase the land). This is why we must rally together and act NOW before PSEG Long Island and LIPA buy the land and it is too late to change the substation location.

Help us stop PSEG Long Island and LIPA by SIGNING THE PETITION opposing the Flamingo Avenue substation.  SAY NO TO A SUBSTATION IN OUR BACKYARD!!

INSTRUCTIONS: Anyone over the age of 18 can sign the petition. PLEASE RAISE AWARENESS: tell your neighbors, friends, other Montauk residents, and anyone else who cares about Montauk and ask them to sign too!
