Buenas Protectors,
We hope to see all of you at our peaceful protest happening today (2/6) at 4:30 p.m. at two locations: the Governor's Complex in Adelup and ITC Intersection in Tamuning.
Recently, our island community has been denied an opportunity for a public hearing to further discuss concerns relative to the surface danger zone over Litekyan and 2.8 miles into the ocean as part of a U.S. Marine gun range. Additionally, our government this month signed an agreement with the military on testing and training in the region that will impact our environment and culture for generations without any public forum.
This is unacceptable.
We must unite for genuine security that fosters care for our land and encourages sustainability practices for our people. There is no security in 6.7 million bullets per year shot above our island’s main drinking water source or in our fishermen not being able to use some of our best waters to feed their families. There is no security in our healers being denied access to rare medicinal plants to carry on our ancient cultural knowledge. There is no security in the destruction of thousands of acres of our endemic limestone forest, home to endangered endemic species, and the degradation of acres of our pristine northern ecosystem.
When our ancient CHamoru burial grounds are desecrated by buildup construction, we are being told that our history and heritage do not matter. It is an affront to our human rights and dignity as an indigenous people.
Time and time again we show up to protest these injustices because we owe it to our future to protect what we have before it’s too late.
Join us on TODAY for a peaceful protest at two locations: ITC Intersection in Tamuning and the Governor's Complex in Adelup.
