Save Ritidian

Jan 7, 2018
Prutehi Litekyan: Save Ritidian (PLSR) will host a Candlelight Vigil at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 14th at the Ritidian Overlook to remind the public and local leaders that Tailalo’, a successful conservation area within the vicinity of Northwest Field, is slated to be cleared and destroyed for the construction of the Live-Fire Training Range in just a few weeks. The proposed clearing, construction, and live-fire training operations pose adverse impacts to significant sacred sites and cultural properties, promote the devastation of numerous endangered species, threaten to contaminate the island’s main fresh water source, and limit access to original landowners, traditional healers, the local fishing community, and the general public to substantial portions of Litekyan (Ritidian). PLSR hopes to remind local leaders of the public outcry against the destruction at Tailalo’ and the community’s demand to put the project on halt.
PLSR aims to specifically address several issues included in a letter from Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo dated December 15, 2017, which includes a number of problematic claims and misleading statements. PLSR has crafted a letter in response to the Congresswoman and invites the community to unite in their requests for transparency, accountability, and accuracy.
Prutehi Litekyan: Save Ritidian (PLSR) is a direct action group dedicated to the protection of natural and cultural resources in the areas identified for DOD live-fire training on Guam. For more information, please email saveritidian@gmail.com.
