Today, our partner Think of Us launched Away From Home, a landmark study about foster youth's lived experiences in institutional placements. The report centers their quotes, art, and poems as they describe their stories in vivid detail.

The Away From Home study found that institutional placements:

1. Failed to meet the mandate of child welfare of safety, permanency, and well-being
2. Were prison-like and punitive
3. Were traumatic and unfit for healthy child and adolescent development
4. Shielded youth from building relationships that would get them out of institutions
5. Were environments in which youth felt like they didn’t have a way out
