Another form of abuse that survivors are seeing is being deprived of their legal rights to their records when requested. Please check the following site to verify the record retention timeframe for the state your program was in: https://www.healthit.gov/sites/default/files/appa7-1.pdf

If you fall in that timeframe, we urge you to request a copy of your records for your own peace of mind. If that timeframe has exceeded, you may still request records. If they have the records, they will have to comply. If they don't, please ask for records of destruction.

If your legal request is denied, please let us know the name of the facility, the state the facility is located in, and the reason you were denied (and any subsequent documentation of that denial). We are hoping to collect information to see if there is a trend for which programs and reasons are given for the denial to potentially share this information with oversight bodies and legal advocates.
