Earlier this week, I was honoured to be invited to Parliament to meet with Ashton Hurn and her team to discuss the very real struggles faced by regional cancer patients and their families.

We spoke openly about the financial pressures so many families are under, especially with the rising cost of fuel and the huge burden of travelling long distances for life-saving treatment. I was proud to advocate for better financial assistance and support for regional patients who should never have to choose between their health and the cost of getting to appointments.

I also stood in front of the media to share the raw reality of what regional families are experiencing every single day — the exhaustion, stress, financial strain, and emotional toll that comes with constant travel for treatment.

I’m grateful that Ashton is pushing for change and bringing attention to this issue. My hope is that those in government hear these stories with compassion and take meaningful action to better support regional cancer patients and their families.
