Just a quick thank you to everyone who has signed the petition as well as sent to friends, family and shared on social media.
My next step is to reach out to the the leaders of each political party. I will be doing this on Monday. The more signatures I get the better chance they will listen to what we have to say. So please keep sharing and drawing attention to this. To many people are unable to escape because they don’t know about or cannot afford saftey ladders
Doing some research I have found that The threshold for LIM-AT (Low Income Measure After Tax) in 2020 was $26,503 for a one person household, $37,480 for a two person household, and $53,005 for a four person household. LIM-AT is a relative measure of low income, meaning that it does not reflect differences in the cost of living.
In 2021, there were 363,955 persons, or 13.2% of the population in Toronto with an income below Statistics Canada's Low Income Measure After Tax (LIM-AT). This is just Toronto!
I know myself, my household income would not qualify for any low income services or benefits, yet I can say that I am struggling…with the rise in the cost of living for basic necessities, I have very little left for things like birthdays, holidays, back to school Ect. So I can only imagine what the people who do qualify For the low income service are going through. Many people think …. What are the chances i need a ladder or fire extinguisher… but I know I need food and hydro and even internet is no longer a privilege. If you have children in school you NEED the internet or they are failing. Things are hard for everyone. There is no more middle class your either Rich or struggling. I know many well off people who are finding it harder too.
We need to do something! If they expect Canadians to pay such high costs for basic needs at least provide us with things that can save our families in an emergency situation.
I’m devastated that people cannot provide these things for their children's bedrooms even though they desperately want to and would do anything to be able to… but what do you chose ? $200 less groceries? We all know $200 Doesn't get much anymore so that could be someone’s entire grocery budget.
I know everyone reading this understands what I’m saying because you have signed, so I will stop my rant now :) thank you all again for stepping up and doing your part….. I really hope we can make something out of this. I will do what I can to bring attention to the subject.
In the meantime PLEASE STAY SAFE! Check smoke alarm, create an escape plan with your family! No one ever thinks it will happen to them .. until it does!
