Hello!
At the time of writing (8.15pm Tuesday), we’re so close to the magical 1000 signature mark (why it’s magical, I’m not sure but it sounds good!)
For those who follow the Page on Facebook, you’ll be aware that I’ve said that once we get to 1000 signatures, I’ll start the next phase of the campaign.
My plan is, using this petition as leverage, to force a conversation between Department for Transport (Network Rail) and Wokingham Borough Council. Between them, they are the two key players and decision makers (DfT has the money, WBC the power to grant planning consent).
Over the last few weeks, I’ve spoken with many people and indeed it is a complex topic that spans not just parking, but transport infrastructure such as cycling and pedestrian routes, as well as bus links. This is the primary reason (and money, of course) why nothing has been done regarding the dire situation at Twyford.
In the short term, the potential for a few more spaces in the “old coal yard” behind the corrugated fence as you drive in, is on the cards. That will only provide 30 or 40 of the 1000 or so spaces the car park needs.
Please continue to spread the word and share the petition with anybody who you know has been affected.
I’ll keep you all updates as and when things have progressed!
All the best
Simon
