Junot Diaz, the author of the book in question, was kind enough to provide the following statement of support, which will be read at the Feb 26th BOE meeting.

"I wrote a novel about a dictator who takes over a country, bans books and intellectuals, attacks and murders with impunity and names everything after himself -- and the long shadow such tyranny casts across generations.  I only wish the US had read more books like mine — our democracy wouldn’t be in such a parlous state. 

A better future, however, is possible and it begins locally: with trusting our students, our teachers and our librarians with books that might not make us all comfortable but that might just make us all free. "
